Chief P.B. Djebah, Nigeria’s Foremost Steel Merchant And Icon Bows Out At 95

Prominent businessman, icon, community leader, and Nigeria’s foremost steel merchant, Chief Philip Bivese Djebah, popularly known as P.B. Djebah has passed on.

Chief P.B Djebah, KSM, KSGG, JP, the patriarch of the Djebah family of Okwagbe, and Okpako- orere (eldest person) of Okwagbe Community, is revered as the very last of his generation in the business community.

Papa, the legend, the colossus died in the early hours of Tuesday June 16 at a private hospital in Warri, Delta State at the age of 95 after several decades of immense contributions to Nigeria’s building and construction sector.

In 1948, Chief Djebah founded P. B Djebah & Company Limited, Nigeria’s Leading Steel Merchant and Stockist, a company that started making its giant strides since pre-independent Nigeria and carried on with its salient contributions throughout Nigeria’s early days in construction and infrastructural development.

Like a colossus, Chief P.B. Djebah dominated Nigeria’s business landscape as a fledgling independent Nigeria set out in 1960, strengthening commerce and industry in the country alongside dynamic indigenous entrepreneurs of yore, including friends of his, like the late Chief Henry Oloyede Fajemirokun.

In his distinguished and excellent business career, Chief Djebah played pioneering roles in many business organizations.  He was a founding Director of Ecobank International and a lifetime Patron of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) established in 1960.

The late Chief P.B Djebah as he is fondly called by admirers was a Justice of Peace (JP) and a member of the Knight of St. Gregory (KSG) of the Catholic Diocese of Warri which his son, Reverend Father Nicholas Djebah currently oversees.

Chief P.B Djebah hails from Okwagbe town, Ukpedi Sub-Clan of Ughievwen Kingdom in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State. He was a one-time President General of Ughievwen Union and until his death, Okpovi of Ughievwen Kingdom, Okpako-Orere (eldest man) of Okwagbe community. He was also the Okpate Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom, in Delta state, among others.

Family members have described Papa as a humble gentleman, bridge builder and peacemaker that would be missed by Nigeria, the people of Delta State, Urhobo and the Ughievwen Kingdom which he served dearly in many capacities.

Papa Djebah’s daughter, Mrs (Barr) Josephine Dinakin prayed God to grant papa external rest in the bosom of the Lord. Just as Cyril Djebah, Papa’s young son equally prayed for external rest.  “Eternal rest, grant into him oh Lord. May he rest in perfect Peace, In Jesus Name. Amen”, Mrs Josephine Dinakin, Papa’s daughter wrote.

Mr R.R. Djebah, Chief P.B.Djebah’s younger brother described Pa Djebah in compelling words while extolling the deceased’s virtues. Describing him as the legend, the patriarch of the family who is always there for all, Mr R.R.Djebah prayed God to grant him eternal rest. On his part, Barrister Michael Djebah while extolling Chief’s virtues said he was a bridge-builder, and a peace-maker.

Founding Chairman of The New Diplomat and former Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Oma Djebah in his reaction to the shocking news of the death of his uncle said he received it with huge shock, saying, “His wise counsel, guidance, priceless advise, peace and bridge-building initiatives across communities, and encouragements will be greatly missed. He was always making peace, a pillar of education to the core.”

Vanity Upon Vanity" - See Photos Of Expensive Coffin Used In The Burial Of A Nigerian Billionaire

Death as we know is a respecter of nobody, when it comes it takes the rich, poor, ugly, handsome, young, old, and any living being.

However we thank God that Chief Anthony died at a very good age, because this week a lot of young people have died already.

After The death of Sir Anthony Obiagboso Enukeme who was a billionaire and Oil Mogul, his burial ceremony commenced yesterday and he was buried in a grand style.

Before Chief Anthony died, he was one of the richest men in Anambra, Nigeria. In his community he held the Onowu title (traditional prime minister), and he was well known for his philanthropic acts. Anthony was also reverred as a high member of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).

His burial was held by several pastors. However, we couldn't help but notice his casket as it was so magnificent, I am thinking that the casket is worth millions of naira.

See photos of the coffin:

But I pray for you reading this that no matter how expensive this coffin may look, may it not be your portion at the early stages of your life in Jesus name. Amen.

See Deeper Life Sisters who wore Skirts to NYSC camp....

Can they excises properly with it ?

These sisters has become a role model for so many young female believers that do not joke with their integrity.

At first no one could wear a skirt to the NYSC camp, but now, it is been permitted. It was as a result of zealous christains like this who choses to maintain their relationship with God.

So many people would blame them saying why did they wear this,or are they the only christains, but believe it or not ,when you are led by the spirit, you would do what the spirit leads you to do,you would no longer work on your own direction and that is why what moves people would no longer move you or matter to you.

Today they have made way for others christains who are willing to apply like them. Not withstanding the fact that the clothe might not allow them carry out with all the extercises.

In my opinion I respect their decision, but I don't think they can do excises freely with it at the NYSC camp

In all may the name of the Lord be praised,I believe they have done well as children of God, laying down a foundation for others.

Feel free to drop your thoughts on this.

See you next time......

2. Yes, ‘I’m not a fan of Obaseki’, but Pa Bode

George misread my Edo guber comments

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose has denied saying that Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, would lose his re-election bid and asked former deputy national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George to go get a rest.

Fayose accused George of deliberately reading different meanings to what he said on the Edo State governorship election for cheap political gains.

George had accused Fayose of saying that Obaseki would lose the forthcoming governorship election in the state and condemned the alleged statement by the former governor.

However, in a statement he made available through his spokesman, Lere Olayinka on Friday, Fayose denied the allegation by George.

3. Kaduna gov, El-Rufai, reveals those inciting violence in his domain

The Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai has revealed those inciting wanton violence in his domain.

Governor El-Rufai who was speaking at the state’s Government House on Thursday while playing host to the Primate of Anglican Church, Henry Ndukuba, accused clerics of instigating violence in the State.

El-Rufai said the clerics use their platforms to preach disunity rather than peace which would benefit the state.

The governor however insisted that his administration has been able to contain violence at its point of origin.

According to him: “Our study of the situation over four decades has shown that the main drivers of this violence are a few clerics that use their platforms, not to preach peaceful co-existence or promote our common humanity.

“Rather, they use their platforms and revered positions to divide and incite violence. I was sad to hear from the primate that he was a victim in 1987, when his house was burnt down in Wusasa, Zaria.

“In those days, the primate will recall that this sort of violence starts from one part of the state and spreads all over the state.

“One credit that this government gets from everyone, including our adversaries, has been our ability to contain these outbreaks to their points of origin.”

This came after the State government relaxed the curfew in Kaura and Jema’a local government areas of the state.

2) Church banned me from choir after I got pregnant - Waje

Singer, Aituaje Iruobe, aka Waje, went down memory lane during the week when she recounted how she got pregnant while writing the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations.

The ‘Frenemies’ singer shared her experience in a recent Instagram Live chat with gospel rapper, Bouqui.

She said, “I got into a relationship in SS3 and the relationship went from ‘puppy love’ to sexual. At that time, I felt I loved him and that (sex) was the only way I could express my love. At that time, I saw a fine boy who liked me, though we quarreled on several occasions. I didn't understand the responsibility that came with making decisions like that. I got pregnant and I remembered one afternoon, I was in the bathroom when someone came to my house and told me my pastor wanted to see me. I knew that day, there were two things that would happen― either I died or I died. Everything in me got drained. Anyway, I went to see the pastor. He was in a conference room with other pastors and he said to me, ‘If you lie, you will die, because you are standing in front of God, Holy Spirit and me’. He asked me, ‘Are you pregnant?’ and I said, ‘Yes’. He was so disappointed. He told me he wanted to see me in church every Wednesday and Sunday but I would no longer sing in the choir.”

Waje also stated that her mother didn’t know she was pregnant until she was five months gone. She said, “I wrote the WASSCE while pregnant and nobody knew; not even my mother. I told her about my pregnancy after five months. After one morning devotion, I told her I had something to tell her. I told her I was pregnant and wasn’t planning on aborting it. At that point, she already knew who was responsible because he used to come to our house. After telling her, she told me to go back to bed. However, I knew something in her broke because she didn’t go back to sleep.”

3) Man who beat traffic policewoman is a fake soldier - Police

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a passenger of a commercial bus for assaulting a policewoman controlling traffic at Shibiri bus stop, Ilemba Hausa area of the state while posing as a soldier.

The passenger, Yemi Aiyeni, was apprehended following a viral video of the assault which occurred last Sunday.

The police spokesperson in the state, SP Bala Elkana, in a statement on Friday tagged, ‘Police arrested man in a viral video assaulting a policewoman,’ said Aiyeni took on the policewoman, Inspector Martina Onyeacho, who arrested the bus for reportedly obstructing traffic flow.

He said, “Ilemba Hausa Police Station received a distress call that a female police officer, Inspector Martina Onyeacho, on traffic control at Shibiri bus stop is in distress. A patrol team was promptly deployed in the scene to rescue her. Her assailant, Yemi Ayeni, 32, was arrested while the policewoman was quickly taken to a hospital for treatment. She sustained various degrees of injury from beating she received from the suspect.

“According to eyewitness accounts, the suspect who presented himself as a soldier was a passenger in a commercial bus that obstructed traffic flow on the busy road, waiting for passengers. The suspect was angered by the order issued by the traffic policewoman to the driver to move his vehicle away from the main road to the pave way for the free flow of traffic.

“He claimed that the policewoman did not accord him the respect he deserved as a soldier sitting in front of the bus and that she was wrong to have challenged the driver while he was there. He followed up with a physical assault on her, beating her with sticks, punching and kicking her.”

Elkana said during questioning, the suspect stated that he had been posing as a soldier since he was dismissed from the Nigerian Army Depot Zaria in 2002 on mental health grounds after spending four months in training.

4) WASSCE: Rivers, Kwara warn teachers, pupils against malpractice

The Rivers and Kwara state governments have warned candidates sitting the forthcoming West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination to shun examination malpractices, noting that any pupil or teacher caught engaging in such would be punished.

The Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Prof Kaniye Ebeku, stated this in Port Harcourt on Friday during the inauguration of Supervisors/COVID-19 compliance teams ahead of the examinations next week.

Ebeku stated, “I know that there are some schools that are centres of malpractices. Some of you know them. If you go there and fall into it, it will consume you because you will find someone who will not tolerate it.

“If you had brought disgrace to Rivers State in the past and there was no sanction, now there will be sanction.”

Meanwhile, the Kwara State Government has told school authorities and parents that it would not tolerate examination malpractices under any guise, warning that anyone caught in the crime would be punished.

The state Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Fatimah Ahmed, made the remarks on Friday while addressing the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools, Proprietors of Private Schools as well as the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers in Ilorin.

Ahmed in a statement signed by the Press Secretary in the ministry, Yakub Ali-Agan, reminded the principals and parents that the state Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, had to pay N30.5m fine imposed on the state following WAEC’s blacklist of 165 Kwara schools over rampant examination malpractices in 2019.

She said, “As we all know, the examinations will start on August 17, 2020. You should all go back home and relay this warning to all your invigilators. Muslim faithful in Ogun State on Friday observed Juma’at prayer in various mosques in Abeokuta, the state capital, and other parts of the state after over five months of ban on religious gathering by the state government following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Worshippers in their large numbers, yet in strict observation of the safe physical distance and other Coronavirus protocols, were sighted at the Central mosques, Kobiti, Abeokuta, with their faces aglow with joy for the chance to resume worship again at their once meeting centres after months of lull.

A similar mood was observed in other major mosques in town as worshippers turned in their numbers.

The gathering for the Juma’at prayer followed an announcement by the state government earlier in the day, lifting the ban on worship centers across the state.

Their Christian counterparts are however, expected to commence theirs on Sunday August 16, 2020 even as the Ogun State Chapter of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on members, ministers of the gospel and denominational heads to ensure that they followed the prescribed guidelines for church reopening in the state to avoid sanctions.

6) Why we lost 18 patients - UCH CMD

The Chief Medical Director, University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Prof. Jesse Otegbayo, said the hospital has lost 18 persons out of the 159 COVID-19 patients it has treated so far.

Otegbayo spoke on Friday in Ibadan on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Josephus Foundation-aided new Infectious Disease Centre at UCH.

According to him, the coronavirus cases treated by the teaching hospital were severe with some of the patients having underlying health conditions.

“From the last figure I saw, we have treated about 159 COVID-19 patients and 18 of them died,” he said.

“We have those mortalities because we take the sickest of the sick; the most severe cases are brought to the University College Hospital and that is the only place where they can be treated.

“We have some of them with comorbidities like hypertension, diabetes and asthma and some other chronic lung diseases.

“Some of them have kidney failure that requires dialysis which is not available in many other places in Oyo State; that is why we recorded these mortalities at the UCH,” he said.
