"It is a team that yes I would like to buy someday. But what I keep saying is we have $20billion worth of projects and that's what I really want to concentrate on.

"I'm trying to finish building the company and then after we finish, maybe sometime in 2021 we can," the 62-year-old African business giant said.

[NEWS] Former Nigerian governor and current senator overtakes Dangote, set to buy Arsenal

Former governor of Abia state Orji Uzor Kalu has declared his interest in buying a staggering 35 percent stake at Premier League club Arsenal.

The current senator representing Abia north in the Nigerian National Assembly stated that his target is to ensure the Gunners win the elusive Champions League as well as the Premier League back-to-back.

Recall that during his time as the governor of Abia between 1999 and 2007, local club Enyimba of Aba remained the kings of Nigerian football winning the Nigeria Professional Football League five times - 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2007.

Our success with Enyimba football club between 2000-2007 has continuously increased my passion for football. As the pillar of sports in Africa , I am considering an investment in football and I will buy 35 percent stake in Arsenal FC.

Our target is to lift the Champions League and Premier League back to back as we did with Enyimba

Enymba also became the first Nigerian side to win the CAF Champions League during that time winning it in 2003 and 2004. The Peoples Elephants also won the CAF Super Cup in 2004 and 2005.

And citing the achievements, Uzor Kalu stated that the successes with the Nigerian football club could be replicated with English club Arsenal.

He said:

“Our success with Enyimba football club between 2000-2007 has continuously increased my passion for football. As the pillar of sports in Africa , I am considering an investment in football and I will buy 35 percent stake in Arsenal FC.
“Our target is to lift the Champions League and Premier League back to back as we did with Enyimba.”

Meanwhile, the senator is not the first Nigerian to have declared interest in the purchase of Arsenal.

However, Legit.ng earlier reported that as the Gunners’ woes continue, Mikel Arteta has taken responsibility for Arsenal's 3-0 humbling defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday night, November 8, at the Emirates.

The Gunners came into the match on the backdrop of their 1-0 encouraging win over Man United at Old Trafford in the Premier League. However, they failed to build on the win against a resurgent Villa side who completely outplayed them.

[NEWS] Govt threatened to shut Fela’s Shrine over Movement of the People’s launch— Seun Kuti

Superstar singer, Seun Kuti, the son of legendary Fela, has said the government threatened to shut African Shrine if he goes ahead with the launch of his “political resistance” which he called The Movement of the People.

In a post on his Instagram page (bigbirdkuti) duplicated on his Twitter handle (@RealSeunKuti) Seun revealed that “the government” made the threat in a call to his elder sister.

Seun also posted a letter from the Divisional Police Officer, The Nigeria Police, Alausa Division, Ikeja Lagos, and addressed to THE MANAGER, The African Shrine, No. 1, NERDC Road, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos.

In the letter dated November 16, 2020, entitled “RE: Mass Meeting of a Movement of the People tagged #EndSARS Movement: Lessons and Task,” the Police said the meeting Seun was planning “is not welcome at this perilous time.”

The letter read in part: “Your are hereby warned to suspend such gathering as any infraction that may emerge from this gathering will be tag (sic) a deliberate action to sabotage the transition and restoration of the peace in Lagos State by Lagos State government and the Nigeria Police Force.”

Reacting to the development, Seun wrote: “So yesterday (Sunday, November 15) the government called my eldest sister @yeniakuti and threatened to close the shrine if I hold my event there tmr (Tuesday, November 17) and also sent a letter to back it up.

“I respect my families’ decision not to hold the event as is, but I will still go ahead with all the other organisations to launch THE MOVEMENT OF THE PEOPLE tomorrow (Tuesday) and start our political resistance to the tyranny of this oppressive regime.

“This is a meeting, just a meeting of organisations, and they are basically banning the right of association.

“Why are they afraid of the people organising? What is democratic about this act?

“The last time we tried to launch the government quickly called curfew and this time they have used threat, but you can’t stop the will of the people.”

Osinbajo advocates need to rebuild citizens’ trust in aftermath of #EndSARS protests

The Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has advocated the need to rebuild the trust of citizens in the aftermath of the #EndSARS protests which later turned violent.

Osinbajo who said this on Monday during the Rebuild Lagos: Dialogue and Partnership event organised by the Lagos State Government said that there was the need for government at all levels to rebuild the lost confidence with the people so as to forestall a repeat of the destruction witnessed in the country in the aftermath of EndSARS protest.

He added that that the level of destruction witnessed during the #EndSARS protests should not be allowed to repeat itself adding that the destruction and disruption of life and work in Lagos and other parts of the country was a national tragedy and a major economic setback for the nation.

He said; “Never in the history of our nation has this former capital city, and our nation’s commercial nerve centre experienced such mindless acts of violence and the enormity of destruction that occurred.

“Perhaps, it is worth emphasising that the destruction and disruption of life and work in Lagos is a national tragedy and a major economic setback for the nation, even as we face the most difficult economic challenges in our generation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We have seen how the noblest causes, such as the EndSARS protests designed to call attention to a serious malignant problem of brutality and extrajudicial killings, can be subverted, leading to the exact opposite of its objectives; chaos murder, looting and arson.

“So, we saw what can happen when the restraints of law and order are loosed and anarchy is given free rein.

“These trying times offer an invaluable learning opportunity, a teachable moment, and it is the lessons we draw from this period that will shape our path going forward,” he said.

Osinbajo urged the private sector to collaborate with the Lagos State Government to rebuild the state.

“It is now time to rebuild. It is time for the painful and costly task of reconstruction and rehabilitation.

“It is now time for the private sector, our international friends and partners, and all who love this city to make their contributions to the rebuilding and reconstruction effort. When Lagos works, it works for all.

“But it is clear that the task of reconstruction goes beyond physical infrastructure or brick and mortar.

“There is a moral, social and ethical reconstruction to be undertaken as well. We must rebuild trust between the government and the governed; the vast majority of who are young persons, rebuild trust between law enforcement agents and the communities that they are meant to serve.

“We certainly cannot afford to alienate our young people who constitute the majority of our society and bear the burden of enterprise, resourcefulness, and innovation required to propel our economy into the future.

“For their sake and ours, we need broad-based and inclusive prosperity that creates opportunities on a scale commensurate with the aspirations of our population,” Osinbajo concluded.

Labour Union Threatens Strike Over New Hike In Petrol Price

NLC president, Ayuba Wabba, in a statement, said the union would not accept such arbitrary increases in the price of petrol.

the Nigerian government to revert to the old pump price of N158 petrol or face indefinite strike from workers.

The labour union said that the recent increase in fuel price was a breach of an agreement with the government at previous negotiations.

NLC president, Ayuba Wabba, in a statement, said the union would not accept such arbitrary increases in the price of petrol.

According to the statement, the increase has also cast in a very bad light organised labour’s utmost good faith with regards to government explanations that it lacks funds to continue bankrolling the so-called subsidy payments.

“Nigerians cannot be made to bleed endlessly, for the failures of successive governments, to properly manage our refineries, ensure value for money for the numerous turnaround maintenance, which was poorly executed,” the NLC said.

The union added that in line with its recent agreement with the government, it would be receiving updates in the next few days from affiliate unions in the petroleum sector and representatives in the electricity review committee.

The outcome of these engagements, labour said, would determine its next line of action in the coming days.
