1) I don’t mind if I live the rest of my life in Nigeria – Army chief, Buratai, waves off threat of visa ban

The Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai on Monday said that some “criminal elements” were threatening military officers with travel ban over the EndSARS protest.

Noting that the first time he travelled outside of the country he was already 50 years and a general in the army, Buratai said he would not mind “if I live the rest of my life here (in Nigeria)”.

NigeArmyrian Army had remained in the eye of the storm after some soldiers on October 20, opened fire on peaceful and unarmed endSARS protesters at Lekki tollgate in Lagos State.

The Lekki shooting saw Lagos and some other parts of the country erupt into violence that led to destruction of lives and properties.

Speaking on the incidence during a conference with army commanders in Abuja on Monday, Buratai frowned at Nigerians demanding that visa ban be placed against military officers and some international organisations threatening the same against them over alleged violations of human rights.

He said, “Criminal elements are threatening us with travel ban but we are not worried because we must remain in this country to make it better.

“The first time I travelled outside of this country, I was already 50 years and a General, so I don’t mind if I live the rest of my life here.”

2) #EndSARS: We have identified barracks where soldiers who shot protesters were deployed from —Falana

Lagos lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) on Monday said his group, the Alliance on Surviving COVID-19 And Beyond (ASCAB), has commenced investigation into last Tuesday shootings of protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos.

Falana, who is the Chairman of the group, the group has identified the barracks where the soldiers who opened fire on protesters were deployed from.

The senior lawyer disclosed this in an interview with Arise TV on Monday.

Falana, who insisted that the soldiers were deployed to the demonstration ground last Tuesday, said: “We have already identified the barracks where the soldiers left for Lekki, we have already identified the barracks.”

He, however, did not reveal the details of the barracks.

“The President was likely to have been told soldiers were ordered so I want to believe that’s why it was not addressed. They said it was a rumour but I think the facts are emerging now, that indeed soldiers went to Lekki, indeed they fired at protesters and indeed some of the protesters at least two have been officially acknowledged to have died from gunshot wounds”, he said.

3) NAFDAC blacklists Indian company for alleged drug falsification

An Indian company identified as Mars Remedies PVT Limited, has been blacklisted by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for alleged drug falsification.

This was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Director General of NAFDAC, Moji Adeyeye who said that the company was blacklisted for the manufacture of falsified ciprofloxacin Tablets BP 500mg (NAFDAC REG. NO C4-0498) for Pinnacle Health Pharmaceutical Ltd, Surulere, Lagos.

Adeyeye who said that henceforth, all imported drugs manufactured by the Indian company have also been banned, added that Mars Remedies PVT Limited illegally manufactured variations of ciprofloxacin tablets, instead of the approved formulation for export to Nigeria.

4) Cross Rivers governor Ayade announces N100,000 reward for information on looters

Over 80 persons have been arrested by the Cross River State Police Command over the two days of looting and vandalisation of the state government and private persons property.

Already the state governor, Senator Ben Ayade has promised N100,000 rewards for information on looted property.

In a telephone chat with some newsmen in Calabar, the Cross River Commissioner of police, Abdulkadir Jimoh, said those apprehended looted private offices, homes as well as those who invaded the office of a National Assembly member, carting away various empowerment items including tricycles, stage and sound equipment at the Calabar International Conference Centre (CICC) and lots of looted items recovered.

He said the police have recovered four new tricycles, water heaters, bathtubs, Air Conditioners, Speakers, Executive chairs amongst other items suspected to be stolen from the campaign office of Ntufam Etta Mbora, the member representing Calabar Municipal\Odukpani Federal Constituency in the National Assembly.

5) I Will Declare Second Biafra War If… Nnamdi Kanu Warns Nigerian Governors

The leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has warned that Nigerians governors especially the southern governors to steer off peaceful protesters today or he will declare a second Biafra war.

Speaking on Monday, the IPOB leader said: “You cannot defeat an army of volunteers go and check your history book. If police or army kill any Biafran in today’s clean up exercise and peaceful protest, I will declear 2nd Biafra war,” Kanu said.

6) Lekki: FFK Reveals When Toll Gate Shooting Will Be Exposed

Former Nigeria Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has said that the truth behind the Lekki tollgate massacre will remain unexposed until President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure end in 2023.

FFK stated this in a thread of tweet on his verified Twitter account on Monday, October 26, while reacting to the discovery of a secret camera at the Lekki tollgate by Babatunde Fashola, Minister of Works and Housing.

According to him, ‘until Buhari is out of office before those involved will be bundled to the ICC at the Hague for crimes against humanity.’

He tweeted; “Why would a Minister remove a camera from the crime scene of the biggest mass murder in our history? If the camera was planted by Govt. they will show us what they want us to see. If the camera was not planted & provides evidence of genocide it will be doctored or destroyed & the deep state is at work here but we cannot be fooled. It is only after PMB leaves office that the truth about what happened at the Lekki Tollgate will be exposed. After that, he & all those that were involved will be bundled to the ICC at the Hague for crimes against humanity.

Good News For #EndSARS Protesters: See What Buhari Has Ordered To Be Done About The Lekki Shootings

Tuesday, October 20th, 2020, will never be forgotten in a hurry in the history of Nigerians, a day the Nigerian Army opened fire on its own citizens who were singing the national anthem and hoisting the national flag. The massacre at Lekki Toll Gate that night remains one of the most heartbreaking conspiracies ever witnessed in any country.

The attack on the peaceful and innocent protesters immediately attracted condemnation from the international community. All over the world, notable figures and organizations lent their voices and condemned the attacks

As the protesters wallowed in their pains and injuries, their hope was that the government would do them justice by ordering a probe into the shootings. The following day, the hopes of the protesters were dampened when the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, while addressing the Lekki shootings, said that forces beyond the control of the state were responsible for the shootings. Though he promised to get in touch with the president and get to the bottom of the issue.

Another ray of hope came for the protesters two days ago when it was announced that the president, Muhammadu Buhari, would finally address the nation. The public hoped that he would hit the nail on the head of the Lekki massacre, but unfortunately, throughout the 12 minutes speech of Mr President, he did not say anything about the shootings at Lekki Toll Gate. And at that point, the hope of the protesters getting justice seemed to have been lost.

But yesterday, that hope for justice came alive again when the protesters received the good news that President Buhari has ordered for a probe into the Lekki shootings.

The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, said this during an interview with Arise TV yesterday.

The Minister was asked why the president did not talk about the Lekki massacre during his address on the #EndSARS protest, and he made it clear to the public that the president has ordered for a probe into the shootings, and that he will speak on it after the outcome of the probe.

He said that of course, the president has ordered for an investigation into the matter, and that he had a national security meeting two days ago. He said the reason the president did not mention the Lekki massacre during his address was because he wants to get his facts first, and after that he will address it. And that investigation is now ongoing, and everything will be made public when it is concluded.

He added that it is difficult to hide facts, especially now that we live in a multimedia world, and that is the path the president has chosen to take. He added that the president is a man of integrity, and when the facts are made available, he will let the public know about what really happened at Lekki Toll Gate on that Tuesday night.

Another good news is that, he gave another assurance that the federal government has accepted the demands of the protesters. He said that before we had been hearing about the scrapping of SARS which was actually lips service, but this time around, for the first time, we heard it directly from the President that SARS has been scrapped, which was also followed by the Inspector General of Police.

He also confirmed that the whole five points demands of the youths were fully accepted by the President, and that he has set up a process.

That is indeed good news. Even though the protest had later turned violent, which wasn't part of the intention of it, there is some consolation in the fact that the efforts were not wasted. The people who lost their lives during this struggle didn't die in vain, because the aims of the protest have been achieved.

1) We won’t allow hoodlums destroy our state – Okowa

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta on Saturday warned that hoodlums hiding under the guise of #ENDSARS protest to perpetuate arson and destruction of public and private assets in the state would contend with the law.

He gave the warning while inspecting buildings and other structures torched Wednesday night in Asaba by hoodlums pretending to be members of #ENDSARS protesters.

Places visited by the governor were Koka Modern Leisure Park, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) office, both on Asaba-Benin Expressway and the High Court Complex on Ibusa road, Asaba.

He said that he was in support of the reforms in the country being championed by the #ENDSARS peaceful protesters, and condemned the act of the hoodlums who hijacked the peaceful protest to loot, maim, kill and cause unrest in the state.

The governor called on residents of the state to be vigilant and also synergize with security operatives and the government in fashioning out ways to arrest and prosecute those behind the dastardly act.

“Unfortunately it appears some people are not quite happy with the beautification we have done here and they decided to vent their anger and criminality on the gardens; they destroyed everything, cut down trees just to deface the city.

“It’s very unfortunate and you can see that a lot of damage has been done to the High Court that was set on fire.

“We also visited the FRSC Office and you saw the level of destruction there as well as the beautiful garden we put up at the Ibusa junction that was also destroyed.

“It appears that some people are not quite happy with the beatification and the level of development in Asaba, but it’s very unfortunate.

“I know that is not the intention of those who started the protest but the criminal elements among us have come in and tried to perpetrate this level of arson and violence.

“It’s obviously unacceptable, and our people must generally condemn it and I believe that even our youths, themselves, are quite unhappy with this.

“I urge our youths to stay vigilant because we cannot allow miscreants and criminals to destroy our collective will to develop this place,’’ he said.

2) Ilorin Looting: Kwara Police Command has begun arrest of hoodlums — CP Kayode Egbetokun

Kwara State Police Commissioner, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun has said that a large number of arrests of looters of Shoprite, other big shops in Ilorin, and government installations have been made, stressing that the arrest was ongoing.

The state Commisssioner of police, made the disclosure while addressing a joint press briefing alongside other service commanders at the police Headquarters in Ilorin on Saturday.

Since the police arrest of the hoodlum’s looters began, sanity has returned to Ilorin as residents stayed indoors to observe the imposed curfew.

A patrol team of Anti-riot police officers was stationed in strategic parts of the state capital, such as the Post office, Challenge, Zango areas, and GRA among others to restore sanity while the arrest was being carried out.

Egbetokun who refused to disclose the no of arrest for tactical reasons said all the “criminal elements” arrested for looting public properties as well as disposesing innocent citizens of their valuables will be made to face the consequences of their actions.

He also clarified that the hoodlums were not among the #ENDSARS protesters who had been on the streets before now.

He said,” the police have arrested some of the hoodlums and, efforts are on to arrest the runaway criminals. I will not disclose the no of arrest for tactical reasons. The arrest is ongoing, and we will make all of them face the full wrath of the law.

He said the command had after receiving an intelligent report on the planned attack by the hoodlum’s drafted men of the force to strategic locations to prevent the happenings.

Egbetokun explained,” the hoodlums who are not part of those who took part in the peaceful #ENDSARS” protest stormed the Cargo terminal at the Ilorin Internation Airport in their thousands where some Palliative food items were kept and emptied it.”

3) #EndSARS: Hundreds protest in London against Nigeria’s police brutality

Around 500 demonstrators took to the streets of London on Saturday in support of youths’ #EndSARS protests in Nigeria that have spiralled into widespread unrest.

President Muhammadu Buhari was the focus of the anger for his handling of anti-police brutality protests against the loathed Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

Black-clad demonstrators, mostly part of Britain’s large Nigerian diaspora, held signs reading “End Sars, end police brutality” and sang “Buhari is a dead man” as they made their way through the streets of the capital.

Others waved Nigerian flags, with some splashed with red paint to make them look bloodstained, while some wore green and white masks and shouted through loudspeakers as they protested at London landmarks, including Parliament Square and the BBC.

Buhari scrapped the feared police unit and pledged reforms, but the demands from the young protesters broadened to calls for more sweeping change.

Police shootings of unarmed demonstrators sparked international condemnation and unleashed chaos in Africa’s biggest city of Lagos.

Shops lifted their shutters and market traders set out their stalls Saturday, as the city cautiously reopened after a curfew was eased following days of unrest.

Police stations were burnt, supermarkets looted and vehicles destroyed as violence flared across the economic hub of 20 million, with officials accusing “hoodlums” of taking advantage of the mayhem.

4)Hoodlums parade Ogun communities in search of COVID-19 palliatives

Some hoodlums, mostly youths, on Saturday besieged Magboro Communities in Ogun in search of warehouses that might be storing COVID-19 palliatives.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the youths had trooped to Magboro communities on the Lagos/Ibadan expressway as early as 7a.m., moving from house-to-house in search of COVID-19 palliatives.

NAN reports that there has been unrestricted looting of warehouses that housed the relief items across the country in the past days by rampaging youths.

One of the youths, who simply identified himself as Wasiu, said the group got a hint that the palliatives were stored in the area, hence they were there to take them away.

The youths, who had unrestrained access, forced their way into every house looking for COVID-19 palliatives that might have been stored in homes.

The terrified residents had hectic time in convincing the hoodlums that there were no COVID-19 palliatives in their houses.

The youths also threatened to break down fences or gates of houses that denied them access to their compounds.

The Chairman of Magboro Community Development Committee (CDC), Mr John Onoja, was manhandled by the hoodlums on the suspicion that he was using his phone to record them.

A resident, Mrs Grace Koleosho, said that the hoodlums searched every corner of her house, including her kitchen, before they departed.

“It was a terrifying scene here as the hoodlums insisted on searching everywhere, including my kitchen, looking for what does not exist.

“My fear is that I suspect something strange if they won’t come back for us later, having known the terrain of this area,”she said.

5) JUST IN: 7 arrested over invasion of Sen. Folarin’s house

No fewer than seven persons have been arrested in connection with the invasion of Sen. Teslim Folarin’s house in Ibadan on Saturday.

Mr Yinka Folarin, the lawmaker’s elder brother, told newsmen on Saturday in Ibadan.

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that some hoodlums had on Saturday invaded Folarin’s house, carting away items worth more than N200 million.

NAN reports that among the items carted away are about 300 motorcycles, deep freezers and food items.

He said that the suspected hoodlums were arrested at the residence of the lawmaker by the Oyo State joint security task force ‘Operation Burst’.

“Most of the equipment had been looted before the arrival of the security men, while seven of the them, identified by the residents, were arrested at the scene,” he said.

NEWSEnd SARS: Buhari reveals regret over ex-IG of Police, Arase

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his regret at not working longer with a former Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase.

This was revealed by presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, in his weekly article.

Arase was appointed by former president, Goodluck Jonathan, in 2015 and worked under Buhari until 2016 when he retired.

He was the 18th IG of Police.

Adesina said Buhari, who has always had it in mind to reform the police, was impressed with Arase’s performance and wished he worked with him “to birth the police of his dreams”.

He added: “Talking of reform of the police, I know the mind of the President on that issue. Sometime in the early days of the first term of the administration, I had dropped into the house one night. And it was a few days to the exit of the then Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, who was going into retirement.

The President told me how much he had been impressed with Arase and how he regretted that the man spent just about a year with him. He then told me of the police of his dreams.”

There has been unrest across Nigerian over police brutality which triggered the #EndSARS campaign.

Amid the protests, there were calls for the resignation of the current IG of Police, Mohammed Adamu.
